TYR is the thirteenth studio album by the English heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released in 1989. This album marked a significant departure from their earlier sound, embracing a more melodic and progressive approach while still retaining their heavy metal roots. Featuring the distinctive vocals of Tony Martin, TYR incorporates themes of mythology and fantasy, particularly Norse mythology, which is reflected in several of the songs. Although it received mixed reviews upon release, it has since been reevaluated and appreciated for its complex compositions and musicianship. The album features standout tracks such as 'Anno Mundi (The Vision)' and 'The Law Maker', showcasing the band's ability to evolve while maintaining their iconic sound.
