Metallica has stepped in to support families in need by donating £20,000 to Cardiff Foodbank after the charity warned that its supplies had reached critically low levels.

The contribution was made through the band's All Within My Hands Foundation ahead of Metallica's sold-out performance at Cardiff's Principality Stadium. According to the foodbank, the donation is expected to fund approximately 9,000 meals and allow the organization to replenish its nearly empty warehouse.

Rachel Biggs, CEO of Cardiff Foodbank, said staff initially thought the email from the band's foundation might be a prank. Once the donation was confirmed, however, it became clear the funding would make an immediate impact on the charity's ability to serve the community. She described it as the largest celebrity donation the foodbank has ever received.

The charity had issued a public appeal just weeks earlier after reporting a 27% drop in food donations while demand remained high. Cardiff Foodbank supports around 20,000 people each year, including thousands of children, and expects operating costs to reach roughly £700,000 this year.

Metallica has made charitable giving a regular part of its tours through the All Within My Hands Foundation, which has supported food banks, workforce education, and disaster relief projects since its launch in 2017. During the band's current UK tour, the group has also partnered with health officials to encourage fans to donate blood.

The generous donation not only provides immediate relief for Cardiff Foodbank but also shines a spotlight on the growing challenges many food charities continue to face as the cost-of-living crisis impacts both those seeking assistance and those who would normally donate.
