In a move that will echo through the annals of heavy metal history, Australia's own PARKWAY DRIVE took to the iconic Sydney Opera House in June 2025 for a career-defining performance that melded their ferocious sound with the elegance of a full symphonic orchestra. This one-night-only event, which saw the venue transformed into a black-tie affair, has now birthed a live album titled Home - Live At The Sydney Opera House, set to unleash its sonic fury on December 4 via Epitaph.
The album captures the essence of this landmark show, where PARKWAY DRIVE broke free from their usual arena-size pyro and thrashing spectacle, opting instead for a refined yet explosive performance in front of just 2,000 seated fans. It’s a monumental achievement that not only showcases the band’s evolution but also honors the roots of heavy music in the most prestigious of settings.
Frontman Winston McCall shared that the idea of recording this ambitious concert was pivotal in choosing the hallowed venue. “We wanted to create something fundamentally Australian that would reshape what PARKWAY DRIVE represents,” he said. The result was a setlist flipped on its head, performed in formal attire on the lush grass of the Opera House grounds, making it a night that defied all expectations.
Featuring collaborations with artists like Nooky and Jenna McDougall, the album’s tracklist is a journey through the band’s most challenging material, culminating in what McCall claims was “the loudest show the Opera House has ever had.” The sheer audacity of this endeavor was a testament to the band's spirit, as they risked everything to present their music in this transformative format.
Directed by Allan Hardy, along with Macario De Souza, the accompanying film Parkway Drive: Home will premiere at Sydney's State Theatre on November 10, further immortalizing this audacious chapter in the band’s legacy. The world will soon witness how PARKWAY DRIVE turned a dream into reality, echoing their 20-year journey from metal underdogs to global titans.
