Trent Reznor has opened up about the future of Nine Inch Nails, raising uncertainty about the band’s long-term touring plans while confirming that creative work is still ongoing.
Speaking during a recent stop on the band’s current run of shows, Reznor reflected on the intensity of performing live and suggested that the ongoing tour could potentially mark the end of large-scale touring for the group. Addressing the crowd, he admitted that he’s unsure whether the band will continue hitting the road after this stretch, though he expressed pride in the current production and gratitude toward fans for their continued support.
The tour in question is the band’s expansive Peel It Back run, which has taken them across Europe and North America and represents one of their most ambitious live productions in years.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding live performances, Reznor made it clear that the creative side of the band is far from finished. He indicated that new material is still being worked on, continuing a pattern in recent years where Nine Inch Nails have balanced studio output with film scoring projects alongside longtime collaborator Atticus Ross.
Reznor and Ross have remained especially active outside of the traditional album cycle, composing award-winning scores and contributing music to major film projects, including recent soundtrack work tied to Tron: Ares.
While longtime fans may be concerned about the possibility of fewer tours—or even a full step back from live performances—Reznor’s comments stop short of confirming a definitive end. Instead, they reflect a moment of transition for a band that has repeatedly evolved its approach to both recording and performing over the decades.
For now, Nine Inch Nails continue to complete their current tour, leaving the door open for whatever comes next—whether that means new music, selective live appearances, or a shift further toward studio and scoring work.
