Vital Signs

Vital Signs is a Pakistani rock band formed in 1986 in Lahore. The band is known for its significant role in the development of pop music in Pakistan during the late 1980s and early 1990s. They gained immense popularity with their hit song 'Dil Dil Pakistan', which became an anthem for the country and marked a pivotal moment in the rise of the Pakistani pop music scene. The band originally consisted of lead vocalist Junaid Jamshed, guitarist Salman Ahmad, bassist Shahzad Hasan, drummer Farooq Ahmed, and keyboardist Kamran Awan. They released several successful albums throughout the late 1980s and 1990s before Junaid Jamshed left the band in 1996 to pursue a solo career and later became a religious figure.

Vital Signs drew influences from various genres including rock, pop, and traditional Pakistani music. The band was inspired by international rock bands of the time, such as Queen, The Beatles, and U2, which shaped their musical style. Additionally, they incorporated elements of sufi music and local folk traditions, creating a unique sound that resonated with a wide audience in Pakistan and abroad.

Vital Signs was one of the first bands to bring modern music to Pakistani television through their performances on shows like 'Music Channel Charts'. They are credited with popularizing the pop genre in Pakistan during the late 1980s. The band's song 'Dil Dil Pakistan' is often considered the unofficial national anthem of Pakistan and has been played at numerous national events. In 1993, they became the first Pakistani band to perform at the prestigious Wembley Arena in London.
